Ligament Laxity Analysis

Ligaments are present throughout our entire body.Ligaments are composed of tough, flexible, fibrous tissue They serve a very important purpose in connecting bones, cartilages, or holding together a joint. Sometimes, however, these ligaments can become loose, causing a variety of symptoms that can cause extreme discomfort in patients. If you live near Ronkonkoma, New York, Dr. Lambert can help you!

The reasons as to why ligament laxity occurs vary greatly, but some of the common causes are:

  • Hereditary

  • Car accident injuries

  • Sports related injuries

  • Joint hypermobility syndrome

It is important to note that some cases of ligament laxity will have no underlying medical cause, commonly referred to as benign hypermobility syndrome.

Symptoms of ligament laxity also vary greatly. Some common symptoms include:

  • Chronic body pain

  • Abnormal joint movement

  • Back problems

  • Shoulder dislocations

  • Ankle sprains

  • Arthralgia

  • Foot pain when standing/walking

  • Vertebral instability

It is important that if you or a loved one are experiencing any or all of the listed symptoms, medical consultation should be sought out, especially if sudden changes in joint mobility, functioning, or joint appearance occur.

At Connetquot Chiropractic, Dr. Lambert is equipped with the skills, knowledge, and tools necessary to treat the pain and other symptoms associated with your ligament laxity. First, Dr. Lambert will fully assess and evaluate the affected area prior to making a diagnosis. If the diagnosis does concur that ligament laxity is present, Dr. Lambert will compose a personalized treatment plan based on the severity of the case.

Common treatments that Dr. Lambert, a Ronkonkoma Chiropractor,  may suggest include:

  • Over the counter pain medication

  • Physiotherapy

  • Exercise programs

  • Sprays and/or creams

  • Orthotic therapy

  • Myofascial release

  • Muscle strength training

  • Padding/braces.

If treatment options do fail to improve the patient's condition, surgery may be suggested in the general area of concern, but as always, it is seen as a last resort option.
