Preventing Neck Pain at Home

Preventing neck pain at home is easy, some techniques involve simple stretches and exercise, while some just require using moist heat treatment. Here are some techniques you can do at home to prevent neck pain.


  • Sit and stand properly- If you have a job the requires to be at a computer all day being hunched over can cause tension in your neck, upper back, and shoulder muscles. If you sit at a desk all day make time to get up and walk around that way you give your neck muscles a chance to relax.

  • Sleep with a good pillow- you might be attached to your pillow because it’s the perfect level of soft that you like. But in actuality, old comfy might be doing more harm than good. An old worn out pillow cause misalignments which causes your neck to stretch and that stretch are what causes that morning neck stiffness. So say goodbye to old and comfy and get that supports upper back, neck, and head 

  • Well-balanced diet- a well-balanced diet is considered by most chiropractors to be an effective method for reducing inflammation. A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and protein will reduce the inflammation that occurs in your neck and shoulders. 

  • Proper lifting & carrying techniques- know your limits! If you must lift or move something heavy know the proper way to do so. Never bend your back or neck to lift! Bend at that waist but make sure your back and neck are straight, this will prevent any neck or back problems.

  • Side-to-side Head Rotation- this simple exercise lengthens and strengthens your neck muscles

  • Side Bending- this helps keeps a patient’s neck muscles flexible

  • Neck Roles- these are good to do first thing in the morning or before going to bed. It helps relax any tense muscles that have accumulated throughout the night or day.
