Facet Syndrome

What is Facet Syndrome?

Pain deriving from the facet joints is known as Facet Syndrome. When the facet joints located between each vertebrae on the back of the spinal column become inflamed, you can experience swelling, soreness, tenderness, and pain. If you are experiencing that pain, a Chiropractor in Ronkonkoma can help. We will work our hardest to lower your level of discomfort and treat you with tender care. You don’t have to live with this pain!

Cause Factors

Your facet joints are always in motion. Whether you are running, walking, sitting, or twisting, your facet joints are being worn and torn. Facet Syndrome is commonly caused by injury or overuse at a younger age. In adults over 50, Facet Syndrome can results in arthritis. Our Chiropractor in Ronkonkoma has seen many different cause factors of this diagnosis.

When you damage a joint through normal deterioration, repetitive trauma, or injury, it can become very painful. If not treated quickly, it may cause long-lasting or permanency of Facet Syndrome. Other reasons one may acquire Facet Syndrome include:

  • A family history of Facet Syndrome

  • Whiplash, injury of the neck

  • Sleeping with a twisted neck

  • Abnormal postures

  • Chronic changes in the thoracic, cervical and lumbar spine

  • Overuse due to heavy labor or sports

Symptoms

  • Headaches at the skull base, acting behind the eyes

  • Lower back pain which may radiate into the pelvic area, buttocs or spine

  • Increased pain when sitting or standing too long

  • Pain when changing positions

The simplest treatments for Facet Syndrome involve soft tissue massage, posture correction, proper exercises, and manipulation of the affected areas. We are proficient and skillful at restoring your facet joints to restore unpainful, normal motion.
