Best Running Techniques to Take You to the Next Level

Best Running Techniques to Take You to the Next Level

Running is an excellent way to stay active and lose unneeded weight! However, for first-time runners, the first couple of runs can be incredibly difficult to get through. The following techniques can bring your running-game to new levels and can help you with your improvement!

Technique 1: Change up your workouts - When our bodies do an unaccustomed workout, it has to work harder to adapt to it. In addition, when our bodies become accustomed to the same workout routine, they don’t have to work as hard and are less likely to have real results. By changing up your workout routine, you’re able to target different muscle groups, let other muscles rest, and improve the endurance and strength you need to be a great runner.

Technique 2: Take care of your feet - Even though it doesn’t seem like our feet are doing the heavy lifting, they are. Anytime we walk, run, or just stand, our feet constantly have to carry our body weight.  One of the best ways to take care of your feet is by rolling a small ball under your feet. By rolling the ball, it will release tension in your muscles and can prevent plantar fasciitis, a common injury for runners.

Technique 3: Become conscious of your breathing - Running requires our bodies to use a lot of different processes. One of the biggest processes our bodies use is respiration.  By being able to control your breath, you won’t have to keep stopping or slowing down in between laps. To do this, you need to determine when your foot strikes the ground. That is when there is the most stress placed on your body during running. Once you determine the timing of your foot touching the ground, you need to make sure that you’re alternating the foot you breathe in and out on.

Technique 4: Stay hydrated - As a runner, you need to know how much to drink before and after a run to avoid being dehydrated. For the best running performance, a runner needs to drink more than they perspire, stay hydrated at all times, and avoid caffeinated products. Eating fruits like apples and oranges can also help you as they are high in water.

Technique 5: Know when to replace running shoes - Shoes are not invincible. Running shoes can wear out over time, resulting in less support for your feet and possible injury in the future.

Overall, how you perform as a runner isn’t just based on your physical capabilities. It’s affected by the amount of water you drink, how you take care of your feet, the way you use your running shoes, how often you change your workouts, and your breathing methods. Next time you’re thinking of going for a run, try out some of these running techniques and see how much your running performance improves.
